With summer construction in full effect, residents should prepare to navigate a maze of closures and detours. As part of the parish's Road Maintenance Program, asphalt resurfacing, which includes patching, milling, and overlay, will be disrupting the usual tranquility of several streets.
One immediate closure to note, as reported by St. Charles Parish officials, will occur on Giacomo Street in Norco, stretching from 445 to 470 Giacomo St. The wastewater work guarantees no vehicles will to freely pass until the scheduled reopening time at 2pm today. Meanwhile, Barriere Construction has been tasked with implementing the broader resurfacing work, and residents can expect partial road closures, with flaggers directing traffic when necessary.
According to the St. Charles Parish government's announcement, several roads are on the docket for patching and milling, impacting areas from Destrehan to Luling, with work slated for nearly every day in the next two weeks. Specific streets like Schexnaydre Lane and Killona Drive will see flaggers on-site, while areas like North Oak Court and East Heather Drive are scheduled for milling.
Adding to local traffic complications, the Kerry's Pointe ramp lift construction, set to begin on May 5, is also expected to cause significant delays where Badeaux Lane meets Kerry’s Pointe. A detour is already in effect for Ormond Center Court in Destrehan, briefly rerouting traffics around construction between Rotolo's Pizza and Buddy's Frostop. And let's not forget the construction of a new conveyor bridge by Bunge, which will see River Road (LA 48) completely closed off between Jonathan Street and James Drive West on the weekend of June 21-22, from the early hours of 6 AM till 7 PM.
State road closures further complicate the scene, with a recurring single lane closure on Northbound and Southbound LA 3127, starting today, June 23, 6:00 AM, and tentatively concluding by Friday, June 27, 5:00 PM, weather permitting. This work is critical for asphalt patching between I-310 and the St Charles / St John Parish line. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and seek alternate routes when possible to avoid getting caught in the fray.
