Following a substantial multi-agency effort, an arrest has been made in the double homicide case of two Alabama teenagers near Percy Priest Lake in Nashville. WSMV reports that Josue Daniel Hernandez-Moxje, 23, has been charged with two counts of criminal homicide in relation to the April 28 deaths of Amir Landan Wilkerson, 19, and Jaime Valdez-Garcia, 18. The victims, hailing from Alabaster, Alabama, were found dead in a wooded area between Lincoya Bay Apartments and the lake.
According to WKRN, the detectives' investigation, working in conjunction with Federal ATF and Homeland Security, led them to Hernandez-Moxje, who was tracked using license plate reader technology to Kenner, Louisiana. On June 6, Hernandez-Moxje was apprehended in Kenner for outstanding warrants on charges including domestic violence, theft, and bad checks, out of Nashville.
It was the forensic evidence found inside Hernandez-Moxje's vehicle that linked him to the scene of the killings. NewsChannel 5 outlines how this evidence was tested and later confirmed to connect him to the homicides, aiding in the official charges levied against him. Hernandez-Moxje, originally from Honduras, was extradited back to Nashville on June 24.
While the suspect is now facing criminal homicide charges, the investigation by the Metro Nashville Police Department continues, and officials suggest that additional charges could follow. Hernandez-Moxje's arrest brings some measure of progress in the case that started when Wilkerson and Valdez-Garcia traveled to Nashville on April 27, only to be found tragically the next day. The community and, doubtless, the families involved, await further developments as authorities continue their work to uncover the full scope of this incident.
