A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting in Lauderhill that left two teenagers hospitalized. According to Local 10 News, police identified the suspect as 32-year-old Kurt Cranston, who now faces attempted murder charges. The incident took place near an apartment complex in the 2000 block of Northwest 43rd Terrace.

The victims, 17-year-old Marvin Travis and 16-year-old Shiraji Reid, were taken to Broward Health Medical Center with gunshot wounds. Surveillance video reportedly shows Cranston with a gun under his armpit before raising it and firing at a group of juveniles. A ShotSpotter alert recorded 12 shots. According to family members, Reid was struck in the femoral artery and required CPR at the scene. Both teens are expected to survive.

Cranston told police he feared for his life due to a prior event on Sunday last week. Detectives are reviewing his statement. He is currently being held at the Broward Main Jail with no bond set.

Local 10 News reports that Reid’s grandmother said, “We need a change, the streets are too bad. These children need to go to church.” Community members held a vigil outside the hospital in support of the victims.

Hoodline reports that the Lauderhill Police Department is seeking additional information. Anyone with tips is urged to contact Lauderhill Police or Broward County Crime Stoppers.

At the hospital, Tiara Higgs, mother of Shiraji Reid, asked the public for help, saying, “I don’t know if anyone knows anything, but come and say something.” Reid’s grandmother, Barbara Brown, added, “I hope we get it right after this, the ones who aren't doing right, I hope they get it right and get it together after this,” as per Hoodline.
