
A man is now in custody after a dangerous confrontation with Southaven police involving a stolen vehicle near a Sonic on Main Street this morning, per authorities. Local Memphis reports that the incident began around 10:45 a.m. when police received information about a stolen car's presence in the area, leading to the location of the suspect by the officers.
The situation escalated rapidly after Southaven police attempted a stop, the suspect responded by ramming police vehicles and attempting to hit an officer with the car shots were fired as a result, documented by Action News 5. In a subsequent chase on foot, officers were able to apprehend the suspect whose identity has not been disclosed.
In the aftermath, police assured there was no ongoing threat to public safety. As investigations continue in the vicinity, police are urging people to avoid the area, according to information gleaned from FOX13 Memphis. The area around the Sonic restaurant on Main Street still witnessed a heavy police presence well into the day.
