On a regular Wednesday afternoon in Miami, the sudden crack of gunfire shattered the mundane as it rang out on a roadside behind a local business. The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office South District deputies arrived on the scene to find Ricky Webster, 65, lying unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate transport by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to a local hospital, Webster's wounds were too severe; he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, according to a Miami-Dade government release.
The investigation quickly ensued, searching for the perpetrator of this heinous act, resulting in a breakthrough that would come about a month later. Through concerted detective work, the suspect was identified as Horace McQueen Jr, 50. Last Friday, McQueen was detained by the U.S. Marshals Service, Florida/Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force in Jacksonville, Florida, as announced by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office. His capture concluded a manhunt that spanned several weeks, and he now awaits extradition to Miami-Dade County, where he will face charges of Second-Degree Murder.
This violent incident, recorded under Case #PD250430126723, took place on April 30, around 4:46 P.M. at the intersection of SW 173 Street & SW Homestead Avenue. The victim, Webster, found behind a local business, fell to the ground after being struck by multiple shots fired by an at-the-time unknown subject. The case against McQueen is set to proceed, following his booking into John E. Goode Pre-trial Detention Facility, as detailed in the official press release. Further updates on the case will follow as it unfolds in the judicial system.
