
A 17-year-old individual faces grave charges in connection with the death of a Monroe County man, per local authorities. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office detailed that on June 12, deputies responded to what was reported as an assault on Forkners Chapel Road and found 41-year-old Steven Reed critically injured outside his residence. Reed was later pronounced dead at the University of Tennessee Medical Center following the severe injuries he suffered, as WVLT reported.
Responding to a 911 call made around 3:45 p.m. on that Sunday afternoon, deputies discovered Reed, in a distressed state, lying on the ground, subsequent to an alleged assault. Despite the efforts to save his life, Reed succumbed to his injuries the next day, on June 13, according to a WBIR release.
The teen suspect, who remains unnamed due to his minor status, was taken into custody later on the evening of June 13, around 11 p.m. and booked into the Knox County Juvenile Justice Center. Besides the first-degree felony murder charge, he also faces a charge of aggravated abuse of a vulnerable adult, a development that has added gravity to the situation, as WATE relayed.
While the full circumstances surrounding the incident and the relationship between the suspect and the victim have not been publicly disclosed, the charged teenager remains in custody. Following his initial booking into the juvenile system, the severity of the charges against him shine a spotlight on the potential ramifications, he will possibly face as the legal process unfolds, according to a WBIR report.
