A tragic rollover crash in Pompano Beach on Friday has resulted in the death of a 16-year-old driver and left four teenagers and a man hospitalized. According to NBC Miami, the incident involved three other cars and occurred around 7:50 p.m. along the 200 block of West Copans Road.

The Broward Sheriff's Office reported that the teen was driving a 2019 Mercedes Benz CLA 250 westbound when an 82-year-old man driving a 2021 Toyota Sienna south on Leisure Boulevard turning left collided with him. Post-collision, the Mercedes rolled onto its roof, subsequently hitting a 2015 Lexus RX 350 while sliding into eastbound traffic. A fourth car, a 2021 Toyota RAV4, was hit by debris from the crash. The name of the deceased teen was not immediately released, and the condition of the other victims has remained undisclosed by authorities.

Following the incident, first responders immediately began life-saving measures until Pompano Beach Fire Rescue arrived to take all occupants of the Mercedes and the Lexus to the hospital for treatment. A WSVN report indicated that the 16-year-old driver of the Mercedes was declared dead at the scene, while the passengers—a 17-year-old girl and three 17-year-old boys—along with the driver of the Lexus, were hospitalized with unknown conditions.

The drivers of both the Toyota Sienna and RAV4 were not injured and stayed on scene, cooperating with investigators. Detectives mentioned to NBC Miami that speed may have played a role in the crash, though they have not specified who may have been driving too fast. Following the accident, Copans Road eastbound and westbound between Cypress Road and Northwest Third Avenue was closed for the ongoing investigation, but lanes have since been reopened.
