Tragedy struck in the early hours of Tuesday when a 17-year-old was killed in a drive-by shooting in the Westwood neighborhood of Cincinnati. The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. at a residence on Percy Avenue. Police responded to the scene after being alerted by ShotSpotter technology, which recorded as many as 14 shots, The Enquirer reports.
The victim, a teenage boy whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was discovered inside the home and had tragically succumbed to three gunshot wounds. Authorities arrived to find the scene marked by multiple shell casings outside the home, signaling a brief yet deadly outburst had shattered the night. Captain Stephen Bower confirmed to LOCAL12 News that it "appeared someone had shot through the front of the home, striking the teen inside."
While details surrounding the incident are still emerging, the presence of ShotSpotter technology was crucial in alerting authorities to the shooting. The system's ability to quickly notify law enforcement of gunfire gives insight into the sheer volume of shots fired, as FOX19 NOW emphasized in its coverage. The high count of shell casings found outside further corroborates the intensity of the gunfire the system detected.
