A somber vigilance has settled over the LaGrange community after a devastating mass shooting at a house party yesterday morning left one teenager dead and six others injured. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on the 100 block of Seminary Street, according to Atlanta News First. Upon arrival, police found multiple victims with gunshot wounds and promptly transported them to WellStar West Georgia Medical Center.
The deceased has been identified by police as 19-year-old Javeon Dukes. While some victims were treated and subsequently released from the hospital, the condition of others remains uncertain, with at least one person believed to be in critical condition. Police have yet to disclose any arrests made or establish a clear motive for the shooting. Still, the LaGrange Police Department presses anyone with potentially relevant information to immediately come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
Neighbors, who are accustomed to tranquility in the area, expressed their shock at the violence that erupted. "It's usually quiet over here," said resident Virginia Durhan, reflecting a sentiment of disbelief shared by many, as recounted by FOX 5 Atlanta. The site of the shooting, a backyard gathering described as a party by witnesses, turned tragically from a place of youth and joy to one of chaos and grief in mere moments.
In the wake of this tragedy, the community's plea for peace and safety rings loud. "It's sad. It's pitiful. People need to sit down and get they childrens and make them sit down and stop all this killing," Shant Dukes, a relative of the deceased and other victims, told FOX 5 Atlanta in the aftermath of the shooting.
The LaGrange Police Department is urging anyone with tips related to the case to contact Detective Randazzo at 706-883-2684 or to submit information anonymously via the Tip411 system by texting "LAGRANGE" to 847411, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.
