A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday morning when a fight outside a downtown apartment complex turned deadly. According to a report by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD), multiple calls were received about fights and gunfire at approximately 1:20 a.m. in the 1500 block of Washington Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 16-year-old boy who had been fatally struck by a vehicle and a 29-year-old woman who had been both shot and hit by the same vehicle.
The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman was transported to a hospital where she is now listed in stable condition. SLMPD's Homicide Unit, alongside the Accident Reconstruction Unit, were promptly called to investigate the chaotic incident. A preliminary investigation indicated that the violence was sparked by an altercation between two groups about access to an unsanctioned rooftop loft party, with an argument over whether to allow a group of individuals, supposedly armed, to join the festivities.
The situation escalated when shots were reportedly exchanged between the conflicting parties. In the midst of the chaos, a burgundy vehicle was observed driving onto the sidewalk, its passenger firing shots. The vehicle is then said to have struck both the teenage victim and the woman before fleeing the scene.
Law enforcement officers later managed to track down and locate the vehicle at an address in District 6, leading to the arrest of a man and a woman. Charges have been formally issued against the 26-year-old male driver for "Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death". Detectives are still working to determine the precise involvement of the 29-year-old woman in the incident, who is currently recovering. The investigation into this fatal confrontation remains ongoing, as reported by the SLMPD.
