A tragic car accident has claimed the life of a teenager and left three others with serious injuries in Linn County, Lebanon, according to local authorities. The Linn County Sheriff’s Office reported to the scene of the crash on Middle Ridge Drive early Saturday morning, where first responders from various agencies, including Brownsville Rural Fire District and Lebanon Fire District, were already providing assistance.
Details provided by KGW confirm that the accident occurred at around 1 a.m. The vehicle, carrying four teenage boys between the ages of 16 and 17, veered off the road under as-of-yet unclear circumstances. Two of the victims hailed from Albany and two from Lebanon. On impact, one of the teenagers was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, while his companions were taken to local hospitals to be treated for serious injuries.
A report from KATU adds that the young men were in a truck when the driver "failed to negotiate a corner" as per the sheriff’s office preliminary investigation, which ultimately resulted in the vehicle striking a tree.
The identities of the teenagers have not been released at this time, and as KPTV notes, the conditions of the three hospitalized victims remain uncertain. The local community has begun mourning the loss, with friends and families seeking support. An in-depth investigation is currently underway to determine the contributing factors that led up to the tragic accident.
The aftermath of such incidents often brings a renewed focus on driving safety, especially concerning young and inexperienced drivers. Community outreach programs and local schools are expected to emphasize these precautions in the wake of the recent accident. For ongoing updates and details on the crash, authorities are directing the public to follow official releases as the investigation progresses.
