A teenage boy is recuperating after an early Sunday morning shooting in Tempe left him seriously wounded. The incident took place near the intersection of Mill Avenue and Rio Salado Parkway, only a stone's throw from the Marquee Theatre, a landmark entertainment venue. Around 12:15 a.m., Tempe police heard gunshots; they rapidly found a 15-year-old boy with multiple gunshot wounds a short distance away on Rio Salado Parkway, just east of Mill Avenue, according to ABC15.
Despite the proximity to a parking lot where protests were taking place, Tempe police claim the shooting was not affiliated with the "No Kings" protest events that night. The teenager, a passenger in a car, was tragically hit by gunfire that police say appears to have come from someone in another vehicle. He was promptly taken to the hospital in critical condition but has since been stabilized and is expected to survive, FOX 10 Phoenix reports.
At this time, the names involved in the shooting have not been released, and the search for the suspect or suspects, as well as their vehicle, is ongoing. Authorities are working to piece together the circumstances that led to this violent event and to ultimately bring those responsible to justice.
