Motorists in Norman should prepare for a brief shift in their commute as South Berry Road is slated for a temporary closure on June 9. According to the City of Norman's official announcement, the section of the road between Cherry Stone Street and Beverly Hills Street will remain off-limits to thru-traffic due to sewer maintenance work.
As part of the FYE 2019 Sewer Maintenance Project, a contractor is set to commence repairs on an existing sewer line early that morning. While awaiting the repair to a sewer line, vehicles will not pass through on South Berry Road beginning at the crack of dawn. Nevertheless, Cherry Stone and Beverly Hills Streets will be unaffected by the construction, remaining open to traffic.
The city has clarified that access to South Berry Road will still be available on either side of the affected segment. Residents and local travelers can rest assured that detours will be minimal, given the road closure's limited extent and duration. Completion of the work is expected by late evening, which should see all roadways fully reopening on the same day.
