Early this morning, a massive fire broke out on Sunny Isles Beach, leading to at least three vessels being engulfed in flames. According to 7News, the incident occurred around 5:15 a.m. near the 400 block of Northeast 163rd Street. Firefighters from multiple departments, including Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and the U.S. Coast Guard, responded to the scene. Thick black smoke billowed into the air, prompting the evacuation of an adjacent building as crews worked to contain the blaze.
Residents in the affected area woke up to the sight of bright orange flames and smoke. “Then we see a little fire starting at a boat, and now it’s like three boats that caught fire. It’s crazy, it’s scary. My friends took their baby and just ran away. There’s too much smoke,” one man told 7News. No injuries have been reported as a result of the fire, which remains under investigation to determine its cause and the extent of the damage.
NBC Miami coverage of the incident included video footage showing one yacht fully immersed in flames, while other docked boats were also seriously affected. The report detailed that over 25 fire rescue units participated in the firefighting efforts, using water and foam to combat the flames. The concerned authorities had the situation under control by 7:30 a.m.
Additionally, CBS News Miami reported that one of the yachts was moved into the waterway to mitigate the risk of the fire spreading to other vessels. The same source noted that the smoke, driven by a southeast breeze, was visible from miles away. "Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said when crews arrived just after 5 a.m., they found a docked yacht fully engulfed in flames behind an apartment building at 400 Sunny Isles Boulevard," as per information obtained from CBS News Miami.
