Three men have been handed down sentences for their involvement in a deadly Tempe drive-by shooting that claimed the life of a 5-year-old boy and wounded two others. As reported by AZFamily, Alfred Gary, Freddy Patterson, and Charles Adams faced multiple felony charges, including second-degree murder, drive-by shooting, conspiracy to commit drive-by shooting, and aggravated assault.
The shootout transpired in March 2023 when Gary, Patterson, and Adams, propelled by gang affiliations and disputes, unleashed a barrage of more than 20 rounds on a Chevrolet Impala holding seven individuals, mostly children and teenagers, at a stoplight on 48th Street and Broadway Road in Tempe. A 17-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl sustained injuries in the harrowing attack that led to the tragic death of the young boy. In a disturbing twist, documented by FOX 10 Phoenix, after the shooting, the trio went to dine, only to return to the crime scene to record a video bragging about their criminal act, a video they later flaunted among their gang peers.
During the sentencing, Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell spoke out against the senseless disregard for human life exhibited by the perpetrators. "Those who act with no regard for human life have no place in our society," Mitchell said, as reported by AZFamily. Alfred Gary received a 16-year prison term, while Patterson and Adams, who were involved in an additional drive-by shooting just two days prior, each received 30-year sentences with an additional five years for the other incident involving a mother and her children—fortunately, no injuries were sustained.
