Three individuals were rescued from the Atlantic Ocean after their small plane crashed off the coast of Vero Beach, Florida. The incident occurred yesterday evening, with the Indian River County Sheriff's Office receiving a distress signal at around 8:24 p.m. The aircraft went down approximately four miles east of Vero Beach Airport, and the last contact was made about one mile from shore, as reported by CBS12.
Several agencies were quick to respond to the emergency, including the Indian River County Sheriff's Office, local fire rescue teams, Vero Beach Police Department, and the U.S. Coast Guard. The search and rescue operations featured a coordinated effort with two helicopters aiding the mission. The Sheriff's Office's helicopter, dubbed “Hawk,” played a key role in locating the three survivors in the water, according to details shared by WPBF. Their position was found just east of 1706 Ocean Drive.
Upon locating the individuals, rescue swimmers were deployed, and all three passengers were successfully extracted from the ocean. They were subsequently transported to the U.S. Coast Guard Station in Fort Pierce for evaluation. The multi-agency rescue effort showcased a swift and effective response to the critical situation at sea.
Investigative efforts are currently underway to determine the cause of the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have been notified of the incident. They are taking the helm in the ongoing investigation, with the aim to unveil what led to the aircraft's unexpected descent into the Atlantic.
