Motorists in Loudon County experienced significant delays on I-40 East due to two separate crashes, involving a tractor-trailer and passenger vehicles. As reported by WATE, the first collision necessitated the closure of one lane at the 367-mile marker near Buttermilk Road, an area just west of the I-75 junction. The Loudon County Sheriff's Office has confirmed the incident left at least one individual injured.
Authorities, including the LCSO, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and emergency response teams, responded to the scene. The congestion was further exacerbated by a second wreck close by, at the 368-mile marker, causing additional congestion for travelers. "First responders from the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Priority Ambulance Service, Loudon County Fire and Rescue, and Tennessee Department of Transportation all responded to the scene and worked to treat injuries," according to the report from WATE.
The WVLT coverage highlighted the multi-agency response, with personnel from the sheriff’s office, highway patrol, and fire/rescue teams at the scene. Drivers were advised to avoid the area and to anticipate extended delays while alternate routes are sought. As of yet, there has been no official communication regarding when the lane might reopen, implying a potential protraction of the disruption.
The impact on those involved was underscored by the WBIR report, which confirmed that one person sustained injuries from the wreck. "LCSO first responders and other emergency personnel are on the scene, investigating the incident and treating injuries," the LCSO stated, reminding those on the road to exercise patience and vigilance while the authorities manage the incident's aftermath.
