Motorists in Miller County should prepare for upcoming disruptions as the resurfacing of U.S. Route 54 is set to commence tomorrow, following a slight delay due to weather conditions. The extensive project will reach across more than 22 miles, starting from the Cole County line, extending to Missouri Route 242 at Lake Ozark, and will introduce a new median guard cable for enhanced safety.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, construction will initially focus on the eastbound lanes near Missouri Route 52, just south of Eldon. The crews are scheduled to routinely work from Monday through Friday during daylight hours to minimize the impact on traffic. To maintain the flow of vehicles, U.S. Route 54 will stay open, but drivers should be ready to navigate through single-lane work zones with a 12-foot width restriction. Motorists are strongly encouraged to remain vigilant, to potentially eliminate distractions, and to slow down when passing through the active construction areas.
The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission, after their November 2024 meeting, has entrusted Capital Paving & Construction, LLC with the project, signing off on a significant $12,451,800 contract. As detailed in a recent announcement, the project is anticipated to wrap up by December 1, barring any additional delays caused by unfavorable weather.
MoDOT underlines the collective responsibility we share in ensuring these constructions unfold as safely as possible. "MoDOT asks all motorists to work with us by buckling up, putting your phone down, obeying all traffic signs, and slowing down and moving over in work zones," the agency emphasized. Adherence to these precautions will not only protect the workers but also secure the safety of every individual on the road.
