The Leverett Connector, a key artery feeding the pulse of Boston's traffic, was brought to a standstill earlier today after a truck caught fire. NewsCenter 5 reported that the incident occurred around 2 a.m., when a witness—who shared video footage of the fierce blaze—described hearing a loud boom followed by the sight of the truck in flames. Despite the dramatic scene, which unfolded on the bridge that arches over the Charles River near the Zakim Bridge, there were no reports of injuries.
Boston 25 added to the narrative, noting that a secondary video captured around 3 a.m. painted a grim picture of the truck, which by then was 'absolutely destroyed' by the conflagration. The inferno's aftermath saw emergency crews engaged on the scene until approximately 5 a.m., after which, the road was reopened to the weary pulse of the morning commute. Boston EMS was not required at the scene, a testament to the absence of physical harm in an otherwise volatile event.
Officials are continuing to investigate the incident, with more details expected as the investigation develops.
