Two motorcycle drivers were transported to the hospital early Sunday morning following a collision in Memphis, as reported by local authorities. The accident occurred at the intersection of Covington Pike and Elmore Road when a vehicle hit the two motorcyclists and subsequently went off the road. Action News 5 mentioned that the incident took place at approximately 1:20 a.m.
The Memphis Police Department (MPD) arrived shortly after to find the involved vehicle had fled the scene. According to FOX13 Memphis, "Police said the vehicle hit the motorcycles and then left the roadway." The unknown driver is said to have fled on foot, leaving the motorcyclists critically injured in the street. As a result, both directions of traffic were temporarily shut down while the emergency services attended to the scene.
The victims were immediately taken to Regional One Health, where they remain in critical condition. WREG confirms that the crash has now spurred a police investigation to identify and locate the driver responsible for this tragic event.
