Two women were hospitalized after a house fire devastated their DeKalb County home late Tuesday night. Medics took one woman to the hospital for smoke inhalation and the other for minor burns; the blaze began on Ballina Drive in Decatur around 11:45 p.m. and crews arrived to find the house already fully engulfed in flames, as confirmed by local fire officials via FOX 5 Atlanta.
Despite firefighters' efforts to save two cats reported to have been trapped inside by the homeowners, the pets unfortunately did not survive the incident, with the house believed to be a total loss, and though the majority of the structure was saved by crews, the reality of the damages means little solace for the residents who now face the task of rebuilding lives from ash and soot.
According to a report by Atlanta News First, the investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, and as of now, no official cause has been released.
