Travelers in Tooele County should brace for traffic shifts as the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) launches upgrades on SR-36 and I-80, aiming to ease congestion and enhance mobility. Starting June 16, northbound lanes on SR-36 are scheduled for weekday closures, extending through the summer of 2026, with additional nighttime work as necessary. Motorists navigating I-80 will also deal with narrower lanes during this period.
The project's goal is to expand northbound SR-36 to three lanes from I-80 to Stansbury Park and to add an auxiliary lane on eastbound I-80 between the SR-36 on-ramp and the SR-201 exit. As stated by UDOT, construction on southbound SR-36 is also underway, targeting an end date for this summer. This work is presently underway between Sunset Road and Stansbury Parkway, poised to conclude in the coming months.
For detailed information about these traffic upgrades and potential impacts on the daily commute, UDOT has made resources available for consultation. Interested parties are encouraged to visit the project page, call 385-324-2122, or reach out via email to the team at [email protected]. UDOT firmly reminds the public that construction schedules hinge on weather conditions and are subject to change.
