During an early morning incident on Sunday, Colma Police officers responded to an alarm at the Kohl's store at 1200 El Camino Real. Assisted by the regional loss prevention officer, who provided live surveillance from the store's security cameras, officers were informed that a female subject was spotted in the stock room, prompting the callout. According to the Colma Police Department's social media post, all entrances appeared secure.
The perimeter check revealed no signs of forced entry, so the situation remained static until the arrival of an assistant manager, who facilitated entry for the officers to investigate the interior. According to the local law enforcement post, they coordinated with K-9 units from the South San Francisco Police and the San Bruno Police's drone support. They soon located a woman who was then detained without further incident.
An attempt was made by the suspect to hide her identity, giving officers a false name. Her true identity, however, was later confirmed through the use of a mobile fingerprint scanner. The woman had an outstanding $3,000 misdemeanor warrant for her arrest post-identification. Upon her arrest, a search unearthed magnetic devices, widely recognized as burglary tools.
The individual, Keshia Kelly, a 37-year-old who is currently unhoused, was arrested for multiple offenses, including trespassing, possession of burglary tools, and providing false identification to police officers. She was booked into the San Mateo County Jail.
