The rigors of Louisiana's unpredictable weather demand resilient infrastructure, and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is stepping up to the challenge. Starting Monday, June 23, Vivian residents can expect to see construction crews at the intersection of LA 170 and LA 2, where a significant upgrade project will commence. Announced yesterday, a notice by DOTD detailed the plans to enhance the intersection's drainage capability, an essential step to prevent the all-too-familiar flooding during heavy rainfalls.
With a considerable investment of $834,934, the construction aims to replace an older cross drain pipe, repave with fresh asphalt, and restripe the roads for clearer navigation. During the construction, which requires a full closure of the crossroads, life continues to press forward; access to all properties will be maintained, a relief for those living and working within the area. A weather permitting completion date is anticipated for August 2025. Signage to guide residents around the detour will be duly put in place.
While the work is expected to establish "adequate and proper drainage through the area," as DOTD reports, patience from the public is paramount. The familiar landscape at LA 170 and LA 2 will soon bristle with bulldozers and workers decked in safety vests—all signs of the growth and fortitude a community needs, ensuring that roads remain passable even when the skies decide to open up and pour.
The DOTD has issued a safety reminder for the public, urging "to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.”
