A Webster man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for his role in a drug trafficking operation that moved cocaine from Puerto Rico to Massachusetts through the U.S. Postal Service. Angel Delgado, 47, was sentenced on Thursday last week, after pleading guilty in January to possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley. The case was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kaitlin J. Brown in Worcester.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office release, the investigation began in spring 2023, focusing on multi-kilogram packages of suspected narcotics. Court documents state that Delgado was seen collecting packages from different addresses and delivering them to another member of the drug trafficking organization. Authorities intercepted two kilograms of cocaine addressed to Delgado, and on April 30, 2024, a traffic stop led to the seizure of another package containing two kilograms of cocaine.
The case is part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) program, a joint federal initiative to disrupt and dismantle criminal organizations. Local agencies, including the Southbridge Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police, assisted in the investigation.
Delgado was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Mark G. Mastroianni and will also serve four years of supervised release following his prison term.
