In a significant advancement for public safety communications, Williamson County Emergency Communications (WCEC) has achieved a rare and esteemed double accreditation from the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch® (IAED™). According to a release from Williamson County's official website, both the Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD) and Emergency Police Dispatch (EPD) designations now recognize WCEC as a Center of Excellence, becoming the first in Texas to hold dual accreditation simultaneously.
With these accolades, WCEC is acknowledged as the 34th EPD ACE and the 78th EFD ACE worldwide. Katherine Wolf, director of WCEC, highlighted the unique position that the center now occupies in the Lone Star State. "WCEC is being recognized as the 34th EPD ACE and the 78th EFD ACE in the world," Wolf said. "While this is very impressive, WCEC also gets to say that we are the first EPD ACE and the fifth EFD ACE in the State of Texas and the first agency in Texas to achieve this dual accreditation status of EFD and EPD at the same time."
To earn the ACE distinction, WCEC underwent an extensive quality improvement process, adhered strictly to the IAED standards, and showcased an unwavering dedication to service excellence. This endeavor, as the county's announcement indicates, is a testament to the rigorous efforts put forth by the agency's team over several years.
Bill Zito, senior director and chief of Williamson County Emergency Services, extolled the broader implications of this recognition. "This dual accreditation reflects the talent, professionalism, commitment and hard work of our telecommunicators and the Emergency Communications Division's leadership team," Zito expressed. "It is extremely difficult to qualify for this, and I am incredibly proud of Director Wolf and her entire team for this achievement. The ACE accreditation validates that our community is being served by one of the best emergency communication centers, not just in Texas but in the world." As such, these honors not only reinforce the quality of WCEC but also establish a new benchmark for emergency response across the region.
Given the stringent requirements for dual accreditation, WCEC's entry into this exclusive club of top-tier emergency communication centers signals a considerable advancement in the provision of emergency services. The community served by Williamson County can rest assured knowing that in moments of crisis, their calls for help are in the hands of one of the finest units in operation, as demonstrated by these recent accolades.
