Early this morning, Worcester Police arrested a man for illegal firearm possession and drug trafficking after a traffic stop. According to the Worcester Police Department's Facebook post, officers stopped a vehicle around 3:00 AM when the driver, identified as 45-year-old Osbert Ventura of North Brookfield, failed to stop at two stop signs.
During the stop, Ventura and his passenger were seen reaching into concealed areas of the vehicle, despite being told to keep their hands visible. Officers noticed Ventura trying to hide a fanny pack near his ankle. When they searched the pack, they found a semi-automatic firearm and two containers containing a substance believed to be fentanyl. A further search revealed additional controlled substances.
The Crime Scene Unit processed the loaded firearm at the scene. Ventura was charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, distribution of a class C substance, and trafficking more than 10 grams of fentanyl.
The passenger was released after no contraband or weapons were found on him.
