A Worcester man is facing multiple charges after leading police on a high-speed chase through Tewksbury. According to the Tewksbury Police Department, 41-year-old Daniel Riedl was arrested and charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, leaving the scene of property damage, and several traffic violations.
The incident began yesterday afternoon when a white Ford F250 was reported stolen from the Petroil Gas station. The truck, identified by two PVC poles in its bed, was soon spotted by police. When officers attempted a stop, Riedl allegedly struck a Honda Civic and fled. He then collided with a Kia Sorento before entering Route 495 southbound.
Due to the dangerous driving, Tewksbury Police followed the vehicle at a distance. Riedl later crashed into a traffic light, reversed into a police cruiser, and continued onto the highway. The Massachusetts State Police then took over the pursuit and safely apprehended the suspect.
Riedl’s arraignment is scheduled for Monday. The Tewksbury Police Department acknowledged the assistance of the State Police in the arrest.
