A tragic turn of events unfolded yesterday near Washougal that led to the death of a 17-year-old girl. KOIN reports that the incident, involving a Toyota Prius and a Kia SUV, occurred around 7:40 AM at SE 20th Street and SE 352nd Avenue. According to the initial investigation by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, the southbound Kia turned east, triggering an evasive response from the Prius, which resulted in a 100-foot skid and a subsequent collision between the rear side of the Prius and the front of the Kia.
In a grave development, it was confirmed that the teenage girl, who was seated in the back of the Prius, succumbed to her injuries at Peace Health Southwest Medical Center. While the 17-year-old driver of the Prius suffered minor injuries and another teen passenger remained unharmed, the driver of a Kia was not injured in the crash and is said to have cooperated with the authorities, as noted by KPTV.
First responders from the East County Fire and Rescue station were promptly on the scene following an automated crash alert. Despite their lifesaving attempts, the 17-year-old's injuries proved too severe. The Columbian detailed that the tragedy unfolded in the morning light, marking a sobering start to the weekend for the community of Washougal.
