A tragic sequence of events unfolded in the O'Fallon neighborhood yesterday when an 18-year-old woman was found dead from gunshot wounds following a two-vehicle accident. According to St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, officers received a call just before 1 p.m. regarding a collision at the intersection of N. Kingshighway & Bircher Boulevards involving a gray SUV and a white sedan.
On arrival, the victim was discovered in the driver's seat of the white sedan, fatally wounded by gunfire. The male driver of the gray SUV, having been in the crash, was transported to the hospital for related injuries. Although involved in the accident, the police do not believe at this time that the gray SUV is linked to the shooting.
The incident sparked an immediate response from Emergency Medical Services who pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. St. Louis police have since traced the shooting to the 4200 block of Red Bud, which based on their preliminary findings, is where the encounter likely began. Detectives are diligently piecing together the events that led to the shooting and the ensuing car accident.
The police are calling on the community to help shed light on this crime, urging that "Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call the Homicide Division directly at 314-444-5371," per the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department's official statement. The investigation into the shooting and the sequence of events that followed continues as the authorities work to unravel the full extent of what transpired and who is responsible for the young woman's death.
