A tragic incident occurred on Saturday in St. Charles as a single-vehicle crash claimed the life of a 37-year-old local man, as confirmed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and reported by multiple sources. First Alert 4 noted that the accident took place just before 1:30 p.m. on South Old Highway 94 near Sherman Drive.
The driver, whose identity has not yet been released, was the only occupant of the 2016 Honda Accord that veered off the road and struck a traffic light pole, an event caught on a Missouri Department of Transportation camera the severity of the crash prompted an immediate response from emergency personnel but despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead at an area hospital shortly after his arrival.
KSDK provided additional details from the MSHP crash report, stating that the incident unfolded on westbound Highway 94, also mentioning that after leaving the roadway, the vehicle made contact with the pole; the victim was subsequently transported to the hospital and declared dead by around 2:00 p.m.
The precise cause of the accident is still under investigation, however, FOX 2 Now informs us that the tragic event took place near the Interstate 70 interchange which is a busy part of the highway that might present a variety of challenges to drivers, during this time, the MSHP has not indicated whether other factors such as vehicle malfunction or external conditions played a role in this incident.
