
A tragic incident unfolded in Towns County, Georgia, where a 5-year-old boy from Cumming died after drowning in a North Georgia lake. According to a news release by the Towns County Sheriff's Office confirmed the boy had been missing for approximately 10 minutes on Tuesday before a family member found him in the lake near a rental house on Stonecrest Circle, as reported by FOX5 Atlanta.
Upon the deputies' arrival, they, along with firefighters, attempted CPR on the child before he was transported to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries, the exact series of events leading to the boy's death has not been fully detailed, but the family was vacationing at a rental residence at the time of the incident, according to a Local 11 report. The boy has yet to be publicly identified pending the ongoing investigation, as detailed by PEOPLE.
Tamela Cooper, the Towns County Coroner, recounted the unfortunate circumstances stating that the boy "fell into the lake and was unable to pull himself out." The drowning has been ruled accidental, meanwhile, the personnel involved in the rescue efforts have conveyed their heartfelt responses to the devastating outcome; "EMS, Chatuge Regional Hospital, and the Town’s County Sheriff's office gave it their all", Cooper said, "They threw everything they had into saving him, but in the end, he was just down too long," as noted by PEOPLE.
