An arrest has been made in connection with the June 2024 Gresham homicide of 76-year-old William "Tom" Vaughn. Gresham Police announced that Randy Saiville, 62, of Gresham, was indicted by a Multnomah County grand jury on charges of Murder in the First Degree and related offenses, according to a social media post from the department. Vaughn, remembered as a veteran and long-standing resident of the community, was found dead after officers responded to a welfare check on the night of June 17, 2024.
The investigation, culminating over a year later, began after Vaughn was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds at his home in the 21000 block of SE Stark Street. The ensuing autopsy determined that the veteran's death was a homicide. Last Tuesday morning, Saiville was apprehended by the East Metro SWAT team in the vicinity of his residence, which is reportedly located in the same neighborhood as Vaughn's.
Vaughn's family has been coping with the loss of a beloved figure. Along with the announcement of Saiville's arrest, police shared a photograph, provided by Vaughn's family, featuring the 76-year-old with his 101-year-old mother and stepdaughter. This photo was captured mere weeks before his death.
