A brazen mid-afternoon theft at Market Square Jewelers in Manchester, NH culminated in the arrest of a suspect, 62-year-old local resident Edward Meiggs, after a store employee triggered a panic alarm. According to the Manchester Police Department's Facebook post, police were dispatched to the scene on July 12th following the incident which occurred around 4:00 PM.
Police say Meiggs pretended to be interested in buying a ring, then stole it while a store clerk was helping him. The theft was quickly noticed thanks to alarms and the clerk’s quick reaction. Officers set up a perimeter and, using the clerk’s description and security footage, found Meiggs trying to hide the stolen ring under his foot, as reported by the Manchester Police Department.
Upon recovery of the pilfered ring, Meiggs was arrested for Theft by Unauthorized Taking and Falsifying Physical Evidence. The formal process of adjudication is set to commence with his arraignment at the Manchester District Court as scheduled on Monday, as per the Manchester Police Department.
