Point Loma Heights was the scene of a serious bicycle-vehicle collision on Thursday afternoon. The incident, which occurred at 4500 Voltaire Street, resulted in a 73-year-old male bicyclist sustaining an open fracture to his leg. A press release sent via email by the SDPD outlined the details of the collision, noting that the incident occurred at approximately 1:47 PM, according to the San Diego Police Department.
The 67-year-old driver of the vehicle had stopped in the roadway and was backing into his driveway when the accident occurred. The bicyclist, traveling eastbound within the bicycle lane, reportedly failed to slow and collided with the side of the vehicle as it turned to back out of the street. The officer in charge of the log, Officer J. Perales, indicated that alcohol was not a factor in the collision. The injured cyclist was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The San Diego Police Traffic Division is now handling the ongoing investigation of the incident.
