A tragic incident unfolded on I-94 in Wayne County, where an 8-year-old girl was run over by the SUV she was attempting to exit during a domestic altercation. The situation escalated when a 36-year-old passenger began assaulting a 51-year-old driver, who is reportedly a relative. According to FOX 2 Detroit, the conflict caused the driver to pull over to the shoulder. In the chaos that ensued, as the young child tried to leave the vehicle, she fell and her arm was subsequently run over as the SUV pulled away.
Michigan State Police responded to calls about the assault last night around 9 p.m. Alongside reports of the assault, there were sightings of a man with serious eye injuries walking away from the brown SUV. As per ClickOnDetroit, upon arrival, authorities discovered the injured man and learned of the events leading to the young girl's injuries. The suspect had fled with his daughter before later taking her to a hospital for treatment.
The Michigan State Police arrested the suspect, and the investigation remains active, with reports to be submitted for prosecutor review. The child was turned over to her grandmother and is currently receiving medical attention at Children's Hospital for her injury.
"Troopers are continuing their investigation into this assault and will submit an investigators report to the prosecutor," F/Lt. Mike Shaw stated in comments obtained by WXYZ.
