Heads up, drivers: if you're planning a road trip that takes you through Acadia Parish on I-10, prepare for a change of course as significant ramp closures are set to unfold. According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), the westbound entrance and exit ramps at Exit 76 — LA 91 (Iota, Estherwood) will be out of commission on consecutive nights starting Tuesday, July 15, from 7:00 p.m. till the following mornings at either 6:00 or 9:00 a.m., depending on the day.
The closures are scheduled to facilitate milling and paving operations as part of ongoing roadwork, the westbound motorists normally taking Exit 76 will have to tread a little further to Exit 72, make a detour via Trumps Road then loop back on I-10 Eastbound to reach LA 91, and those coming from LA 91 looking to merge onto I-10 Westbound will have to reroute eastward to Exit 80, then north on LA 13 to find their way back onto the interstate, essentially, driving around the block to get next door.
Unfortunately for those in emergency services, the DOTD has made it clear that emergency vehicles will also be barred from these ramps during closure timings. Detour signs and instructions are promised to be clearly laid out to prevent any undue confusion during the said hours. It's important to note that despite the disruptions, there are no width restrictions for vehicles navigating the construction area.
