San Mateo's quiet daily rhythm was disrupted yesterday when the local police department responded to a grand theft at the Safeway on 1655 S El Camino Real. According to a report released by the San Mateo Police Department, two teenage boys partnered with an adult to lift nearly $1,199 worth of alcohol. Fardy Robles, a 20-year-old from Antioch, was identified as the driver of the getaway vehicle, a silver Audi sedan.
The staged theft escalated quickly, with the suspects subsequently hitting another Safeway location in a neighboring city, where they hauled an additional $2,500 in goods. Attempts made by law enforcement to intervene resulted in high-speed chases. The suspects, seemingly prepared to rapidly outdistance any who pursued, finally found themselves detained after an evasive bout that pinballed them across city lines.
Fardy Robles now faces serious charges, including grand theft, conspiracy to commit a crime, evading a peace officer, and contributing to the delinquency of minors. He was taken to the San Mateo County Jail without incident. The juveniles, who have not been identified due to their age, were charged with grand theft and conspiracy to commit a crime. They were released into the custody of their respective parents or guardians after the arrest.
