The City of Apache Junction has a new feather in its cap as its baseball fields at the Apache Junction Parks & Recreation Little League Complex have been singled out for national praise. The fields were chosen to receive the 2024 Fields of Excellence Award by Pioneer Athletics, one of only five locales in Arizona to boast such an honor. The award recognizes organizations that commit themselves to maintain outdoor athletic fields of high quality, with just 79 fields across the United States making the cut last year.
“I want to acknowledge our incredible parks team for their dedication and outstanding efforts to get our Little League baseball fields in pristine shape,” Liz Langenbach, director of the Apache Junction Parks & Recreation Department, said in a release. The parks team has worked tirelessly to elevate the quality of the fields by developing and employing innovative methods to achieve top-tier results, showing that a lack of high-end resources does not have to significantly stand in the way of excellence.
Located at 440 S. Ironwood Dr., the Little League Complex has not just rested on past laurels since its 1990 erection. Recent initiatives have seen upgrades to fencing, restrooms, and the fields themselves. On the horizon are further improvements like laser-leveling infields and installing shade structures, designed to enhance the facility's aesthetics and user experience.
