Atlanta has seen a string of violence this past week, with two fatal shootings occurring within hours of each other on July 24. According to the Atlanta Police Department's official press release, 36-year-old Tavaris Williams has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies in connection to the incidents.
The first incident took place at 1675 Memorial Drive SE around midday, where a 45-year-old male was found with a gunshot wound and pronounced dead at the scene. Williams, the suspected shooter, briefly fled but quickly returned to the scene, which led officers to successfully apprehend him after a short foot chase. Charges including murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony have been laid against Williams, and he has been transported to Fulton County Jail for processing. Investigators are actively working to fully unravel the circumstances behind this tragedy.
Hours later, officers responded to another call at 369 Skylar Way SE. There, they found a 33-year-old male also suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. The Homicide Unit of the Atlanta Police Department is now piecing together this separate but connected event, as Williams faces additional charges related to this second incident.
