As tensions between Kroger and its drivers intensify in Atlanta, Teamsters Local 528 are ramping up the pressure with a practice picket outside the company's Forest Park fulfillment center. This display of unity, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta, is meant to signal their readiness for potential strike action over contract negotiations that have yet to yield a satisfactory outcome for the drivers demanding "a fair contract that includes better wages, strong benefits, and enforceable job protections."
While no strike date has yet been set, members voted in June to authorize a walkout, should it come to that and, in a statement obtained by WSB Radio, Kroger maintains that a strike would not affect product availability or store operations despite the critical role these drivers play in delivering food and essentials to Kroger stores across the southeastern U.S.
The labor unrest is not happening in isolation but rather as Kroger also embarks on an expansion and consolidation phase, highlighted by a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Kroger Marketplace in Locust Grove and the shuttering of several metro Atlanta locations, including stores in Atlanta, Alpharetta, Decatur, and Brookhaven, per information from FOX 5 Atlanta.
