An escalating threat of arson and a subsequent SWAT intervention unfolded in Avalon yesterday, after a man allegedly threatened to burn down a residence and became confrontational with law enforcement. According to WPXI, the standoff began just after 5 p.m. when a wanted man, with a bench warrant for a probation violation related to a gun charge, barricaded himself in a house on the 200 block of Harrison Avenue.

After the Allegheny County Police Department's SWAT team arrived to support sheriff’s deputies, the suspect, hidden inside the residence, had previously threatened to set the dwelling alight and engage in gunfire with the police. Despite these alarming threats, SWAT negotiators successfully made contact, and the man surrendered without further incident, as per the detailed account by law enforcement officials retrieved from the scene just last month, searching for him.

The incident not only prompted a forceful response but also resulted in evacuations for safety. Before the suspect gave himself up, another apartment in the duplex had to be vacated. In a statement detailed by WTAE, police said that the man, identified as 31-year-old Diamere Davis of Pittsburgh, left a menacing voicemail for his ex-girlfriend stating, "I swear your house (is) going to be on fire."

Davis then escalated the situation further by initiating a video chat with his ex-girlfriend while lighting a rug on fire within her living room, confirmed by police. Upon arrival, Davis refused to comply with law enforcement's commands, prompting the need for the SWAT team's intervention. After the heated exchange, Davis was arrested and is now facing charges of arson, terroristic threats, and other offenses.
