The Blaine Police Department recently applauded the outstanding efforts of its citizens and staff in a 2024 Year in Review social media post. Among the accolades were Life Saving Awards given to 8 citizens across three separate incidents, recognizing their courageous actions that meant the difference between life and death. Furthermore, 8 staff members were likewise honored with Life Saving Awards, with another staff member receiving a Department Commendation for exemplary service.
Highlighting the department's commitment to mentorship and community involvement, Sergeant Travis Hale received the Explorer Advisor of the Year Award. The Chief of Police, Brian Podany, was the recipient of the Spurgeon Award from Northern Star Scouting — an acknowledgment of his influence and leadership. Not to be overlooked, the department's commitment to safety on the roads was underscored by the MADD Law Enforcement DWI Awards; Officer Cree led the charge with an impressive 85 DWI arrests, followed by Officer Satele with 55, and Officer Justen contributing 43 apprehensions to the year's total.
K9 Hector, part of the department's four-legged force, was also in the spotlight, fetching the USPCA Region 12 National Case of the Quarter Award for the 4th quarter. This prestigious recognition highlights the critical role that K9 units play in supporting law enforcement activities and their unique contributions to maintaining public safety.
