In a somber turn of events, the Cedar City Police Department confirmed the discovery of a body yesterday near the eastern foothills of Cedar City, raising the possibility that it may be the remains of Steven James Oakeson, who was reported missing several days prior. As detailed by ABC4 News, the male body was found less than two miles from Oakeson's last known location.
Oakeson, who had ventured out on a camping trip and was last seen last Saturday, had not been heard from since. His vehicle was discovered abandoned near a walking trail, prompting searches in the vicinity. According to information obtained by KUTV, the search operation for Oakeson was brought to a standstill upon the discovery of the body.
The authorities are now faced with the task of identifying the deceased. The state of the body, having been exposed to natural elements, necessitates a thorough medical examination to determine the identity conclusively. Cedar City Police have told the public that this process is underway.
