In a tragic incident on the roads of Washington Parish, a collision between two vehicles led to the death of a Bogalusa man. According to the Louisiana State Police, 43-year-old Gary W. Pittman Jr. lost his life in the early hours last Saturday after his Dodge Dakota collided head-on with a GMC Sierra.
The accident occurred on LA Hwy 21, near Lon Miley Road, with the initial report stating that for reasons yet to be confirmed, Pittman's vehicle veered into oncoming traffic. Resulting properly restrained at the time of the crash, Pittman was pronounced dead at the scene by the authorities, driving the Dodge. The GMC's driver suffered severe injuries and was transported to a hospital; their condition with regards to seat belt usage during the incident is currently unknown.
Routine toxicology tests have been initiated for both parties involved in the crash as part of the ongoing investigation. The results of these tests might shed light on the cause of the tragic accident. The Louisiana State Police emphasized the critical choice of safe and attentive driving, not just for one's own sake but for the entire community that takes to the roads alongside us each day.
As part of their message, they underscore the harsh reality that while some accidents are not survivable, the odds can be significantly swayed by simple precautions such as refraining from impaired, ill, distracted, or fatigued driving, and ensuring always to buckle up. Transported to a local hospital, the GMC's driver's recovery time remains unknown.
