The city of Boynton Beach is casting a net to local talent, calling on artists to bring color and life to the mundane but essential traffic control boxes that dot its streets. In a project that embeds art in the everyday, these functional structures are set to become canvases that celebrate the community's identity and aesthetic. Fitting within one of three themed design concepts—“We Are Boynton,” “Abstract Tropical Nature,” and “Bright Beach Vibes”—the initiative aims to integrate the city's coastal charm into its urban infrastructure.
Artists of all backgrounds and skill levels are encouraged to submit their designs, with an incentive of a $500 honorarium for selected works, as reported by BocaNewsNow.com, not only will the chosen artists receive recognition and a financial reward but their art will be on public display across 35 prominent intersections around Boynton Beach, they're expected to apply by September 1. Guidelines necessitate that submissions be high-resolution landscape PDFs, with a minimum of 300 DPI, accompanied by a completed online form, and artists can also indicate their top three preferred locations for their artwork.
Planning & Development Director Amanda Radigan contextualizes the endeavor as a means to bolster community identity and offer artists a chance to leave a tangible imprint on the cityscape. “This initiative is about more than beautification,” Radigan stated in information shared with BocaNewsNow.com. “It’s a visual celebration of who we are as a community and a way for artists to be seen, valued and remembered in the city they help shape.”
According to details from WPBF.com, the public is invited to track the progress of the Transforming Traffic Boxes into Public Art project, with updates and opportunities posted on the city's website and the @boyntonarts Instagram page.
