Yesterday morning, tragedy struck at a Brentwood intersection when a motorcyclist was fatally injured in a collision. According to a social media post by the City of Brentwood Police Department, the incident occurred around 2:08 a.m. at Sellers Avenue and Chestnut Street.
Responding officers found the motorcyclist, a man, who had been waiting at the intersection, to be struck from behind by a vehicle. The force of impact was enough to cause life-threatening injuries, leading to the victim being pronounced dead at the scene, the post detailed.
The collision's aftermath prompted the closure of Sellers Avenue and Chestnut Street in both directions for about five hours, as investigators worked the scene to determine the cause. The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody on suspicion of felony driving under the influence, with drugs being considered as a potential contributing factor to the tragic event.
Brentwood Police is asking witnesses to provide information about the collision. They emphasized that calls may remain anonymous and provided their contact number, urging the public to call (925) 634-6911 to assist in the ongoing investigation.
