Early this morning, residents of the Palm Garden mobile home park in Miami-Dade's Leisure City woke up to a slightly surreal sight—water flooding the streets and their homes following a pipe burst. As drivers prepared to leave for the day, they were met with the unusual obstacle of waterlogged roads. A rapid response from the county's public works team, consisting of multiple vehicles, found the root of the chaos to be a damaged pipe. To handle the overflow, they had a pump running to hastily move the water from the road onto the surrounding grass, as reported by Local 10.
This unexpected turn of events took a particularly heavy toll on one homeowner, under whose residence the burst pipe wreaked havoc. According to a 7News interview, the homeowner discovered the deluge when he was woken in the early hours by the sound of rushing water, only to find his property inundated—the flood reaching calf-deep. "I don’t know, underneath the house there’s the air conditioning ducts, and all of that is now completely drenched in water," he explained. "If everything damaged, that’s going to cost me a lot of money to fix."
Miami-Dade’s Water and Sewer Department responded swiftly to the flooding, working to contain the situation and limit further damage. As the community manages the immediate aftermath, officials are preparing to assess long-term impacts once the water recedes. Notably, the water at the affected intersection did not carry the usual odor associated with sewage, offering some reassurance to residents.
