The Georgia Department of Corrections has turned a new page at the Bacon Probation Detention Center/Transitional Center (PDC/TC) with the announcement of Calandra Watson as its new superintendent, set to step into her role on July 16, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections' recent press release. Commissioner Tyrone Oliver commended Watson for her consistent leadership and dedication and expressed high expectations for her tenure as superintendent.
Watson's journey within the Georgia Department of Corrections began in 2001 when she joined Ware State Prison as a Correctional Officer, showing promise and ascending to positions like Maintenance Secretary and Business Manager her career evolved at Ware and led her into a succession of roles, including Administrative Support Supervisor at Bacon PDC in 2018, followed by a promotion to Assistant Superintendent at Bacon PDC/TC three years later, in 2021.
Boasting academic credentials that include a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership from Valdosta State University and a Master's in Public Administration from Strayer University, Watson is also equipped with departmental training spanning Basic Correctional Officer Training to Management and Initial Correctional Counselor Training, which has prepared her for the challenges of supervising staff and male residents at the installation.
"Calandra has been a dedicated team member who consistently leads by example," said Commissioner Tyrone Oliver, as per the Georgia Department of Corrections. He expressed confidence in Watson’s ability to contribute to the institution’s mission of rehabilitation. Watson’s career progression through various roles in the department reflects a broad understanding of correctional operations.
