As the people of Carrboro continue to grapple with the aftermath of Tropical Storm Chantal, a town still pulling itself together from the roots up, their Public Works department has issued an update regarding the local waste collection services that have been hamstrung by the vicissitude of weather. According to a statement from the Town of Carrboro's official website, residents are being asked to exercise patience as the Public Works crews work to return to standard operating procedures in the wake of significant infrastructural damage caused by the storm.
With flooding overwhelming the Public Works facility on S. Greensboro Street, a consequential loss of critical vehicles, including trash trucks, has occurred and in response, operations have been temporarily shifted to alternate community facilities, with crews employing borrowed trucks until new equipment is secured and leased. The crews now navigate an unfamiliar tide, operating leased equipment they are not yet familiar with, a task they undertake with a caution to sidestep further disruption," as per the Town of Carrboro.
Yard and bulk waste collection have found themselves on the back foot, but a diligent focus remains on the neighborhoods most severely impacted by flooding, this week efforts double to claw back on schedule, though the legacy of storm debris means the cleanup is still an ongoing process. Despite the setbacks, dumpster service and residential waste collection persist on schedule though residents might spy fallen cans as operators adjust to their new mechanical partners and they are requested to lend hands when needed, collecting any carts that may topple.
The Public Works department gratefully acknowledges community support and patience as they work tirelessly not just to clear the present hurdles but to lay the groundwork for more robust responses to such future events, and updates will follow as the situation evolves. To stay informed on trash collection and other service adjustments, residents can visit the town's official website for the latest information on the recovery process.
